Description

A lovely example of one of the most beautiful post-war Rolls-Royce convertibles ever made. This is a pre-Corniche example. The first convertibles of this series were known as a “Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Drop Head Coupe by HJ Mulliner Park-Ward”, often abbreviated to simply a Rolls-Royce DHC. The Corniche name was adopted in March 1971. This is a Right-hand drive example finished in Shell grey (silver) with light grey Connolly hides. The single coach-line is matched to the dark blue convertible top for that handsome touch. A very desirable and mature colour of the era and not often seen here in the US US. The DHC design with its signature rear quarter “hip-line” is unquestionably one of the most elegant of coach-work designs provided by Rolls-Royce’s coach-builder – Mulliner Park-Ward. It has tested the time for elegance and style enduring no less than 30 years in production (1966-1996). This being a 1967 model with the early style full chrome bumpers combined with their lower poise and swooping rear wheel arches, really make for a handsome motorcar and present amongst the best of Mulliner Park-Ward’s offerings. This is a good clean example that has been nicely maintained and presents in fine condition. She was very recently fully work-shop serviced for its previous owner by Park-Ward Motors with receipts totalling some $22,000 (these are available for review). This included all the hydraulics and brakes; new hydraulic pumps, accumulators & valves rebuilt, all new rotors, calipers, hoses with reservoir overhauled. It is ready to drive and enjoy. It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior is in very decent shape although not perfect but quite nice for driver use. The front seats show a little more age than one might hope for with a couple of small tears. (These leather panels can be replaced). The burr walnut wood throughout the car is incredibly nice appearing to have been refinished in the last 10 years or so. The photos show how beautifully they present with a deep rich ochre grain that only Mother Nature can provide. The convertible top is about 10 years-new and presents very nicely. The outside canvas top is great and the clear plastic rear window perfectly clear. Unfortunately, the internal head-liner seems to have provided late night snacks to the local moth family (see pics). This internal headliner can be replaced without the rest of the top so please feel free to enquire. The carpets with leather binding are also poor but are currently overlayed with factory moutons that present well. Again, feel free to enquire should you want us to fit new carpeting. It is not hard for us to do and in keeping with factory materials and finish. The boot (trunk) carpet is in “acceptable” condition. The body on this DHC is very true and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The finish is a result of a complete high-end repaint of some 20 years ago. It presents wonderfully. There are some little imperfections here and there but really only mentioned out of our commitment to open disclosure. Rest assured the paint presents in real-life as you see in the photos. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight. The car has new whitewall tyres fitted with plenty of tread and the hubcaps are excellent with no imperfections in the stainless rings or caps. All remaining bright-work is in good condition. All electrics and operational features were fully gone through as part of the above-mentioned service receipts so all windows work, seats, roof, wipers, instruments, heater, AC, right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. Even the clock keeps good time! Under the bonnet, the presentation is clean and tidy with all the signs of a well maintained example. As you would expect, this DHC comes with its original jack, correct tools and operating manual.
